- ABOUT ALTERNATIVE FINANCIAL AID
-
- Educational costs are briskly outrunning inflation. The cost
- of one year of tuition at a typical four-year college will
- average $25,000 per year by the next century. State and federal
- student financial aid funds are no longer enough to pay for the
- increasingly high cost of an education. Therefore, students
- must seek out alternative financial aid programs.
- Alternative financial aid is non-state and non-federal
- student financial aid offered by private organizations through-
- out the United States. Alternative financial aid normally
- consists of scholarships, grants, low-interest loans, no-
- interest loans, fellowships and internships. Students may
- qualify for alternative financial aid by the possession of
- certain personal characteristics or by studying certain
- subjects.
- College Funding Finder is an alternative student financial
- aid database which tracks over 1,400 alternative student
- financial aid sources offering over 50,000 different student
- financial aid programs. In addition to helping students locate
- sources of financial aid, College Funding Finder provides the
- student with comprehensive funding information AND personalized
- application request letters which reduce the effort required by
- the student to get the necessary applications for these aid
- programs. A guide with tips for applying to these funds is also
- supplied to the student.
-
- USING COLLEGE FUNDING FINDER
-
- Students using College Funding Finder simply select the
- areas of study they wish to pursue from College Funding Finder's
- vast list of pertinent subjects. College Funding Finder uses
- the areas of study chosen by the student to locate the
- appropriate alternative financial aid programs available.
- College Funding Finder will conduct a GENERAL search for all
- funds available under every search criteria entered. Students
- must read the funding descriptions to determine which funds they
- are specifically eligible for.
-
- AREA OF STUDY SELECTION
-
- Students may choose an area of study to search on by
- using the arrow keys to highlight their selection and pressing
- ENTER once the desired selection is highlighted. If an area
- of study is not offered on the selection screen, then the
- desired area of study is simply entered by selecting the OTHER
- option from the selection screen, pressing ENTER, and entering
- the desired area of study.
- If you choose the OTHER option from the subject selection
- screen you will be prompted to enter in your other area of
- study. College Funding Finder will search for funding using
- the exact spelling of the desired area of study that you enter.
- For example, in order to search for funds available for the
- study of veterinary medicine, you would select OTHER from the
- subject selection screen and enter in 'veterinary medicine'.
- If, however, you wanted to locate all funding related to
- veterinary science, veterinarians, veterinary medicine, etc...,
- you would limit your entry to 'veterinar'. Only part of the
- word is typed in because the text 'veterinar' is part of the
- entire spelling of each of the above related fields. Typing
- in only the most important part of the subject (i.e.,
- 'veterinar' of 'veterinary medicine', or 'veterinary science',
- or 'veterinarians') will enable you to locate all funds related
- to that particular topic. Remember to limit all your
- 'typed-in' selections in the same way in order to maximize your
- chances of locating all funding available to you.
